TOTO Restaurant is a restaurant with a café based in Bratislava (Ružinov). On weekdays it offers a wide selection of tasty lunch menu inspired by honest Slovak, Czech, Hungarian and Prosperian cuisine. Coffee, lemonade and homemade cakes are a must. Modern air-conditioned rooms with wifi coverage also contribute to pleasant dining and relaxation.
For several years, Slovanet has been building and refining the IoT network to help businesses in many areas. One of them is TOTO Restaurant. IoT (Internet of Things) is a technology that enables interconnection of Internet communications of individual devices (monitoring and measuring sensors). Their advantages include easy installation and operation on a long-lasting battery. Since 2016, Slovanet has been building an extensive nationwide IoT network, LoRaWAN, which meets the key IoT requirements: it provides bidirectional data transmission with minimal energy requirements, high communication security, compatibility of offered devices and the possibility of interconnection with its own applications. LoRaWAN enables the data transfer from a variety of connected devices and sensors in solutions where real-time data transfer is not required. Automating day-to-day tasks with IoT solutions helps to increase the productivity, level of control and process transparency. It minimizes variability, error rate and the need for human intervention.
Bratislava restaurant TOTO Restaurant is one of the LoRaWAN network users. “We have temperature sensors installed in refrigerators, freezers and warehouses
(our warehouse even has a moisture sensor). It’s a convenient solution and we don’t have to make manual entries. Measurements are automatically recorded and available at any time for inspection. Failure signaling is also an advantage. For example, the system informs us when the refrigerator stops working or temperature fluctuations occur (even if their value is higher than set)”, Martin Udvaros, the operator of TOTO Restaurant, names a few benefits.
In addition, Slovanet’s IoT LoRaWAN helps food businesses comply with legislation. It instructs them to monitor and record temperature at regular intervals using calibrated gauges. The solution from Slovanet takes care of it automatically. Other innovations used by TOTO Restaurant include air quality monitoring. „For example, it monitors the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO₂). This way, we can set up air conditioning and other air-conditioning systems faster and better” says Udvaros, adding that Slovanet’s innovations include a solution that can detect the number of people on the site. “This way, we can make statistics or pricing. When there are more people, we can move prices, do promotions and the like. Thanks to IoT devices and sensors, we have an overview of when a one waiter is enough for the operation and when we need, for example, three waiters, because at the time we have the highest demand. It is possible to regulate and set up so that some employees can come in later and others sooner”, explains Udvaros of TOTO Restaurant and states: “Microclimate monitoring and restaurant air quality sensors, automatic recording of measured values, detection of the number of people at a given location … the IoT technology in the LoRaWAN network from Slovanet is innovative, fast and efficient.”
Slovanet’s IoT solutions can also be used in industries other than the food industry. “In the Smart City area we provide, for example, monitoring of external conditions (light smog, noise, dust, detection of various gases …). In interiors it is similar – monitoring of air quality, temperature, humidity, CO₂ VOC, dustiness … In the area of waste management we can talk about waste monitoring and in industry 4.0 the monitoring of cranes, welding machines, rainwater tanks …”says Marek Engler, Innovation Manager of Slovanet. Other industries include, for example, viticulture (catching vine diseases) or animal welfare (monitoring of air in terrariums and ZOOs).
