SLS-TECHNACO s.r.o. – www.slstechnaco.sk – Is one of the largest distributors of gear elements, tools, machinery and craft engineering on the Slovak market. Since its formation in 1992, it grew to a company with more than 50 employees, sale and warehouse space over 3000 m2, its own shopping centers in 5 Slovak cities, with a sales representation also in the Czech Republic and an annual turnover of approximately 8 million EUR.
PREVIOUS STATE
SLS – TECHNACO became a client of Slovanet in 2010 on the basis of a positive reference from a joint business partner of the two companies. They have been looking for a new Internet service provider because they were not satisfied with the previous ISP. After the initial DSL connection and the increase of internal communication requirements the company later acquired branch connections via radio links and a MPLS virtual private network by Slovanet. In addition to the Internet and data network from Slovanet, SLS – TECHNACO also uses voice services with telephone exchanges in Žilina, Bratislava and with links to all other branches. According to the company’s IT manager, “it’s 100% better now.”
THEIR OWN IT INFRASTRUCTURE REACHED ITS LIMIT
The segment of IT, hardware and software of SLS – TECHNACO has been covered for a long time using their own resources – through direct purchase of equipment and licenses and their own administration. All the technology has been operated at their headquarters in Žilina. However, the increase in the capacity need for data transmission gradually reached the limits of the available transmission technology. This was emphasized by the aging “equipment past its operational life” and the associated requirement of new investment. After reviewing the options, the company decided to move to the cloud. This was at a time, when Slovanet was already operating the first generation of its cloud:LINK services.
THE TRANSITION TO THE CLOUD WAS WITHOUT A LONG HESITATION
The previous satisfaction with Slovanet and the presented perspectives and future benefits of the new technology have quickly convinced the managers of SLS – TECHNACO. They were also enthusiastic about being one of the first members of the DEXIS parent group to move to a modern cloud IT solution in Europe. The proposed technical solution was also endorsed by foreign owners and accelerated by the affordable price. The company transferred its own information system as well as the operation of its e-shops to the cloud.
UTILIZING THE BENEFITS OF CLOUD:LINK
According to IT manager Enrik Podhorský, the key advantage of transferring to the cloud is the demise of the need to maintain and service hardware, decreased electricity costs, and they do not have to worry about outages of air-conditioning. In the event of failure in one branch the others continue to operate – which is not guaranteed if you operate your own hardware. At the same time, cloud devices now have a radically higher connectivity speed.
