The company Fpt Slovakia, s.r.o. has been providing IT services since April 2004 – namely software development, implementation and maintenance of SAP solutions, independent testing and quality assurance of IT services within the energy sector. It is headquartered in Košice, where it employs approximately 250 IT specialists. After ten years of existence, the company has merged with the Vietnamese company FPT Software (since that time the company is acting as its subsidiary), which is currently one of the TOP 100 IT outsourcing companies in the world.

MANAGING A SPECIFIC CHALLENGE

The cooperation between Slovanet and Fpt Slovakia started in 2014 with a tender for a supplier of a complex data-communication solution. The advantage of Slovanet (compared to other competitors) was that its technology was already up and running and was the most affordable. The professional approach of the employees and the cooperation according to pre-agreed conditions were also an important deciding factor. The result was the provision of the Slovanet’s telecommunications service package, in the framework of which Fpt Slovakia uses data infrastructure (internet connection and virtual private network) and dual-level security products as well as cloud services (internet:LINK, vpn:LINK, ethernet:LINK, safe:LINK, cloud:LINK a vdi:LINK). For Slovanet, the cooperation with Fpt Slovakia has been a specific challenge. At the time, Slovanet had not yet deployed its Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) products into its cloud service package in commercial operations, and the collaboration with Fpt accelerated the development and deployment of this product in a real customer environment. As Peter Kočiš, IT Manager of Fpt Slovakia says: “Cloud as a new technology was a clear choice as it offers many advantages over traditional data centers. It enables a more agile approach to work. For example, we can flexibly customize, expand or increase capacity and performance when needed. Changes will be reflected more or less immediately. One of the advantages is also high compatibility and virtually unlimited connectability from various user devices and systems.”

ACCESS FROM ANY LOCATION – EVEN IN VIETNAM

Currently Fpt Slovakia has not a single server in its locations, because it uses virtualized infrastructure for servers and desktops. Its employees and IT administrators can access them from any location. Slovanet also provides connections to overseas sites of Fpt Slovakia, even in Vietnam. This is enabled thanks to the service vpn:LINK and internet:LINK. The first of the two enables to access your business network from any location. The virtual private network also makes it easy to update data between branches and headquarters, securely share resources within a company (servers, data storage, information systems …) and distribute information to business partners. Its advantage is the reduction of telecommunication costs. The service internet:LINK in turn, ensures high stability, capacity, connection security and prompt maintenance services. Thus, with Slovanet there is no risk of a sudden failure of e-mail communication or outages of online orders lasting for several hours.

• after the deployment of cloud services, Fpt Slovakia prepared an internal platform Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) for its employees, which increased their flexibility and motivation.
